ABOUT THE NELMS HOUSE
The Nelms House is within the Smithfield Historic District. The house is a wonderful example of Victorian Queen Anne architecture. The interior is restored to its original beauty with period paint, floors, drapery, furniture and décor. The home is available to the community to rent for small gatherings. Its unique spaces for small events allow a “home hospitality” experience. The flexibility at The Nelms House provides use of a single room, multiple rooms, or the whole house for rentals. Please see the photo gallery for the six rooms available.
Our desire to benefit the community will ensure we always recommend the most local vendors, such as artists, florists, designers, photographers, local products, and catering services. When referring vendors to clients we will recommend vendors that start with Smithfield, moving to Isle of Wight, and not further than Hampton, Newport News, Suffolk, Yorktown and Norfolk. The Nelms House will benefit charitable organizations and community needs whenever possible.
The Nelms House features a tea/coffee room (infused and French press to order) with buffet refreshments of local products, a local art gallery in 10 designed rooms, a unique boutique featuring upcycled artwork, vintage or antique furnishings, a Victorian house tour, arts workshops, and special activities. See "Shop" for boutique items and upcycle art. See "Current Artists" Gallery for featured artists, See "Activities" for current and upcoming opportunities to enjoy the Nelms House.
